Oral Surgery

We will have to extract a tooth when there is not enough tooth structure left because of too much decay or trauma, or when we cannot save the tooth with root canal therapy.

Sometimes for orthodontic treatment healthy teeth may have be extracted to create space for other teeth to move into, or to allow another tooth to grow.

We also remove some wisdom teeth, but in more complex cases we will refer you to a specialist.

With today’s techniques and technology patients will experience very little discomfort. Your dentist will be happy to perform simple extractions and surgical procedures.

For very nervous patients, we can arrange sedation for any of the procedures.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment is a dental procedure to fix a tooth that cannot be filled or restored any other way and where the only other option would be extraction. This is necessary if the tooth is severely decayed into the pulp of the tooth or the pulp has become infected. Your regular dentist might perform the root canal treatment or they may send you to a root canal specialist (endodontist).

The dentist will prepare the tooth by removing all of the decay and bacteria. They will use root canal files to clean out the canals in the roots of the tooth. Root canal files are small instruments that fit down into the canals enabling the dentist to remove the pulp of the tooth.

After the tooth has been prepared it is then be filled. The tooth will possibly need to be crowned at a later stage as these teeth become more brittle and are then more prone to break.
